SCHOOL LIFE

LEARNER ENRICHMENT COMMITTEES

Our school features learner enrichment committees that provide exciting learning opportunities and competitions tailored to specific interests. These committees include (i) Language and Literature, (ii) Art and Cultural, (iii) School Press, and (iv) Environmental and Social.

The Language and Literature committee fosters a love for reading, writing, and language exploration. Learners engage in creative writing exercises, book clubs, and language-related competitions.

The Art and Cultural committee encourages artistic expression, creativity, and cultural appreciation. Learners participate in art workshops, performances, and cultural events, showcasing their talents and celebrating diversity.

The School Press committee hones students’ journalistic skills, promoting effective communication and critical thinking. Learners contribute to the school newsletter, engage in reporting, and explore various media platforms.

The Environmental and Social committee nurtures a sense of responsibility towards the environment and society. Learners participate in eco-friendly initiatives, community service projects and awareness campaigns through AAKKAM, fostering a commitment to sustainability and social welfare.

Each committee is led by dedicated leaders and secretaries who work closely with teachers to organise and coordinate events. These committees provide learners with opportunities for personal growth, leadership development, and teamwork, fostering a well-rounded educational experience.

HOUSE SYSTEM

Fostering Camaraderie and Competition Among Students

In our school, learners are divided into different houses or elements: Neer, Neruppu, Vaan  and Kaatru. The purpose of this division is to foster team spirit, encourage healthy competition, and engage students in various sports and activities.

  • NEER (Aqua Blue) Represents the element of water.
  • NERUPPU (Red) Represents the element of fire.
  • VAAN (Navy Blue) Represents the element of sky.
  • KAATRU (Yellow) Represents the element of air.

Through these house divisions, learners develop a sense of belonging and camaraderie within their respective teams. They actively participate in inter-house competitions, sports events, and other activities, showcasing their skills and team spirit.

AFTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

At Golden Gates Earth School, we prioritise the holistic development of our learners. To foster overall personality growth, we offer a wide range of after-school and morning sports coaching activities, such as football, basketball, athletics, and table tennis. Cricket, swimming, tennis, squash are offered at Deuce Academy, which is located within our school campus. These sessions, available on school days at an additional fee, allow learners to develop their athletic skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

We recognise and appreciate the efforts of our learners who participate in tournaments and competitions, providing them with encouragement and support in academics so that they are able to cope with missing classes while attending tournaments.

These experiences not only build confidence and resilience but also enable learners to develop their hobbies into talents.

We do not recommend nor encourage tuitions or coaching centres that push learners to memorise concepts through rote.

Activities for Kindergarten

The school believes in the balanced growth of the students. We do not believe that writing several pages leads to better learning. Instead of sending them to academic tuitions, we encourage children to read good children’s literature, engage in a lot of free play and spend time with family to create a loving bond with even extended members of the family. Take them to weddings, family functions and birthday parties to help children learn socialisation skills. However, you can start exposing your child to arts, music, dance, sports or martial arts through additional classes.

Handwriting

Our school recommends the ‘Lucida’ style of writing and our teachers pay attention to help students develop their writing skills. Kindly do not send them to handwriting classes, where ‘cursive handwriting’ is being taught.

CAREER COUNSELLING

We offer career counselling services to guide our learners in exploring their future pathways.

Our dedicated career counsellor is available to guide learners in understanding their interests, strengths, and aspirations. Through personalised sessions and group sessions, we aim to help learners explore various career options, develop career goals, and make informed decisions.

Career Pathways

Our counsellor helps learners explore different career options, aligning their interests, aptitude, skills, and aspirations. They provide valuable insights into emerging fields, industry trends, and job prospects to guide students in making informed career choices.

University Exploration

Through our partnership with IC3 (International Career and College Counseling), we organise career fairs and facilitate direct interactions between students and representatives from renowned universities worldwide. This exposure enables learners to gain insights into various academic programs and make informed decisions.

College Applications

Our counsellor assists students in selecting suitable colleges and universities, both in India and abroad. They offer personalised guidance on the application process, including writing impactful essays and preparing for relevant entrance exams.

AAKKAM

Aakkam is a centre for alternate and sustainable development studies started in the year 2012. This centre opens a lot of exciting avenues to students, parents and the general public to learn, research and work on alternate and sustainable models in all fields – technology, power, building, water management, farm practices, social and economic issues etc. Aakkam will initiate and support active research in these areas.

Aakkam also runs an ECO STORE in the school premises which sells all the eco products made at school.
