Assessments & Examinations

AADYA KINDERGARDEN

All learning activities at Aadya Kindergarten are embedded with meaningful low-stakes assessments that are meant to check for understanding and identify learning gaps, so that all learners achieve their learning goals in a non-pressuring and a meaningful way. There will be no high-stakes, graded and standardized assessments at the Kindergarten level.

Grades 1 to 3

In order to create a stress-free environment during assessments to promote a positive attitude towards learning, our school promotes Continuous Mastery Assessments (CMA) in place of standardized tests and assessments. The assessments are presented in a child-friendly manner, using age-appropriate language and engaging formats, this is aimed at ensuring that learners in lower primary classes attain mastery in various subject areas. The assessments focus on evaluating students’ conceptual understanding, vocabulary mastery, writing skills (spelling and grammar exercises), and number fluency.

The CMA will be conducted on a monthly basis throughout the academic year. Each assessment will be short in duration to maintain engagement and minimize stress for the learners.

Grades 4 to 10

Cambridge and GGES examinations

Cambridge International Exams encompass three key assessments within our school curriculum: Cambridge Primary Checkpoint, Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint, Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge AS & A levels. These assessments are set and evaluated by Cambridge International to maintain global benchmarks.

1.Cambridge Primary Checkpoint is administered at the end of Grade 5

2.Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint occurs at the culmination of Grade 8.

3.Cambridge IGCSE examinations are conducted at the conclusion of Grade 10.

4.Cambridge AS and A levels are conducted at the end of Grade 11 and 12 respectively, and these exams cover a wide range of subjects that are chosen by learners at the beginning of the course.

Our school aims to support learners in achieving success in their Cambridge examinations through a combination of progression tests, interim assessments and continuous mastery assessments, which ensures that students receive regular feedback, maintain a strong grasp of the material, and are well-prepared for their exams.

Progression Tests (PT) Progression tests are administered every module, which occurs once every four months or three times a year. These tests are specifically designed to align with the Cambridge curriculum, ensuring that learners are progressing in accordance with the required standards. The purpose of these tests is to evaluate students’ understanding of the curriculum content and their ability to apply it effectively. These assessments also serve as checkpoints for students to assess their learning before moving on to the next module

Interim Assessments (IA) To further gauge students’ progress and provide timely feedback, interim assessments are conducted between modules. The interim assessments help identify any areas of weakness or gaps in understanding, allowing for targeted remediation and support.

Continuous Mastery Assessments (CMA) CMAs are moderate stakes, meaning they carry a reasonable level of challenge and are conducted almost every month. The focus of these assessments is to test students’ knowledge and comprehension of the material. The questions in CMA are of ‘what?’, ‘why?’ and ‘how?’ nature, focusing on knowledge, comprehension and sentence structures. While CMA questions do not completely mimic Cambridge examinations, continuous knowledge-based assessments will directly impact the results in progression tests or Cambridge examinations.

Attendance during assessments is mandatory. In case of situations where the learner is unable to attend, an email must be sent in advance with a valid reason, to the principal. Reassessments will be conducted only when learners have valid reasons for absenting themselves. The principal’s decision on next steps  will be final.
